|Description:||The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery is seeking a full-time pediatric cardiac surgeon. The candidate should be board certified in cardiothoracic surgery and board eligible/certified for the congenital subspecialty certificate issued by the ABTS.
The ideal candidate will be a candidate who is in the early stages of a career in the field or one who has a proven track record in the field of congenital heart surgery with a strong commitment to either basic science or clinical outcomes research. The prospective candidate should have excellent training and/or experience in all aspects of neonatal, infant and adult congenital heart surgery including mechanical circulatory support and pediatric heart transplantation. The chosen candidate will be expected to work closely with the three existing congenital surgeons to further develop the program academically and clinically. Preference will be given to individuals who bring unique skills, interests or qualifications to the current faculty.
Founded by Dr. John Kirklin, the congenital heart surgery program at UAB is one of the oldest programs in the country and provides outstanding cardiac surgical care to the entire state of Alabama. The program is currently based at the Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children, which opened in 2012 and is part of Children’s of Alabama. The chosen candidate will receive an academic appointment commensurate with experience through the UAB School of Medicine, will be clinically active both at Children’s and UAB, and will have access to the extensive research resources of the University as well as the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery under the leadership of Dr. James E. Davies.
