Duties of the non-ACGME accredited fellow is to actively participate in the pre-operative evaluation of pediatric cardiac patients, the operative management of pediatric and adult congenital patients at the role of first assistant or operating surgeon for appropriate cases, and the post-operative management of pediatric cardiac surgery patients. Our team is supported by multiple physician assistants and nurse practitioners. In-house coverage is expected in the intensive care unit on an average 5 calls a month including some weekends. Fellows are also expected to take back-up coverage at home for emergency surgeries and heart transplantation. Although not required, there is an opportunity to conduct clinical outcome research.
