Job Title: Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery (Non-ACGME fellow)

Description: The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is offering a non-ACGME accredited congenital cardiac surgery fellowship for one year.

This non-ACGME accredited Fellowship is designed for candidates who have completed a residency in cardiothoracic surgery and are interested in obtaining advanced experience in pediatric and adult congenital cardiac surgery and pediatric heart transplantation. A valid ECFMG certificate is required for foreign medical graduates.

The pediatric cardiac surgery program at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is one of the busiest in the country with approximately 900 operations performed every year. In addition, we have a very busy pediatric heart transplantation program with an average of 20 transplants performed every year. Finally, the adult congenital cardiac surgery program at Emory University Hospital is one of the largest growing programs in the country performing 100+ operations every year.

Duties of the non-ACGME accredited fellow is to actively participate in the pre-operative evaluation of pediatric cardiac patients, the operative management of pediatric and adult congenital patients at the role of first assistant or operating surgeon for appropriate cases, and the post-operative management of pediatric cardiac surgery patients. Our team is supported by multiple physician assistants and nurse practitioners. The fellow duties are shared with the ACGME accredited congenital cardiac surgery fellow and the Emory University cardiothoracic surgery resident. There is ample patient volume with 3 operating rooms on a daily basis between Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory University Hospital. In-house coverage is expected in the intensive care unit on an average 5 calls a month including some weekends. Fellows are also expected to take back-up coverage at home for emergency surgeries and heart transplantation. Although not required, there is an opportunity to conduct clinical outcome research.
